Making work FUN!
the variety of tools my students can choose from each session
Spelling and reading are all we do here. I’m often looking for ways to make the work more interesting, colorful, palatable. One of my techniques has been to find fun ways to write and read.
For reading, I picked up a silly microphone at the dollar store and some of my students like to pretend they are news reporters on the scene. So after practicing the sentence a few times, we shift into that mode and they are reading their sentence as though reporting. And my silly set ups (as the anchorwoman) and or comments after they report on the scene, as their colleague at the station bring smiles and giggles.
student practicing sight words and wanted to make them into a shape of number 9 (added to previous days work with nonsense words)
For spelling sight words, words that emphasize the rule/s we are studying, phrases or sentences, well, there are many choices here. I find my students like having choices. They can choose differently as their mood dictates. We use boogie boards, white boards, fun paper & gel pens as well as sidewalk chalk with a turtle knee pad. I love adding the kinesthetic to our work and fresh air and sunshine are also so very beneficial!
I’m always open to new technologies/ideas so if you have any, drop them at eurekatutoringllc@gmail.com. Thanks in advance!
